Moving Off the Grid: Season 1, Episode 3
In this episode, you can see how we built our pallet fence. Not only was this a fun and inexpensive project, we’re happy to report the fence withstood the entire monsoon season; which means it’s durable enough to stand up against heavy rain, high winds, and dust storms!
We got a lot of free pallets from a nearby town, so we decided to use some of them to build a fence.
We started by setting up posts for a gate.
They’re 5”x8’ posts buried 2’ deep.
Next, we set the first pallet in position and checked it with a level.
Then we secured it to the post with 3” screws.
After drilling a screw into the top, center, and bottom of the post, we wrapped 14 gauge steel wire around the top and bottom.
We then marked the position of the second pallet and put a T-post through the center of it.
Once the pallet was placed over the T-post and screwed into the preceding pallet, we wrapped more steel wire around the two pallets and the T-post.
We carried on with this pattern, inserting a T-post through every third pallet, until we reached the corner of our yard, where we then inserted another 5”x8’ post.
After setting up all the pallets, we took a quick nap, then hung our gate and fenced off the last section of our front yard.
Gear We Used For This Project
